When a student is behaving inappropriately, give them a responsibility to counteract the bad behavior. A student cannot do two things at once, he/she cannot make a disruption in the line if the student is the line leader. Give them a responsibility, then they will also be practicing good behavior.
- Try to reduce or eliminate behaviors
- Want a positive goal to develop desirable behaviors
- Some ways to reduce or eliminate behaviors
- Attack the behavior directly
- Attack the behavior indirectly by strengthening its opposite
Motivation Theory
- Find what they love, use their interests
- Give lots of choices
- Get their input
- Encouragement- stickers, school supplies, let them give their preference, give encouraging words, smile, give an ‘important’ job for them to do
- Reinforce positive behavior- ‘catch them being good’
