Rules and Procedures
Rules and Procedures are the way that I expect students and all who enter the classroom to behave.
Rules identify general expectations and standards.
Procedures communicate expectations for specific behaviors.
The rules and procedures vary from classroom to classroom based upon the grade level and teaching style of the teachers. Some common rules and procedures include teaching students how to treat one another, when and how the student may leave the classroom and when it is appropriate to speak out in the classroom.

Rules for my Classroom
In my classroom I want to have the students tell me what they expect the rules for our class to be. We will make a list of all the rules up on the board that students say and from there we will make one list that can cover all the areas. I want our list to look something like the picture below. This list of classroom rules covers all the areas I am looking to cover with my students. This will be a contract that the students and I make, which after we have all signed our rules we will hang it in the class as a reminder of how we all agreed to behave in our classroom.
Display of Rules and Procedures in my Classroom
Classroom rules and procedures will be displayed in the classroom so students can see them throughout the day. General rules and procedures will be displayed in the front of the classroom to use as a quick reminder to students. Rules/procedures that are more area specific will be displayed in the appropriate areas around the classroom at times when needed.
It is important that the rules and procedures don't become overwhelming or complicated for the students. Displaying and enforcing a short list of the rules will help students be more successful in following them in class.
Posting the rules and procedures in bright, colorful displays will attract the students attention, which will help them be more successful in following them.
